Unicorn In Captivity Embroidered Denim Jacket
π©Έπ¦ππΏπ©Έπ¦ππΏπ©Έπ¦ππΏπ©Έπ¦ππΏ
Denim jacket, hand embroidered with an interpretation of The Unicorn in Captivity. The Unicorn Tapestries are a series of seven, dating back to the late 1400s-early 1500s Europe. They were woven with wool, metallic threads, and silk. Their exact provenance is unknown β like so many artworks, theyβve been found, lost, looted, rediscovered, debated, and so on.
The Unicorn in Captivity is the most well known and recognized of the tapestries. Its subject sits peacefully beneath a pomegranate tree (a symbol of fertility), surrounded by a variety of flora. Though the unicorn appears at rest, it is chained by a belt around its neck to the tree, and drops of blood are falling from its side.
My feeling is that the unicorn is taking a rest, being rejuvenated by the peaceful place and flora friends it finds itself among, and knows it has the power to escape its bondage. In my heart, the unicorn is a protector of the kind and the good, and receives its magic and power from the other magical beings of nature. The sweet violets, the juice from the pomegranate, the tickle of the wind. At peace, together, they restore one another.
Classic, 4-pocket denim jacket in a light wash, with slight distressing on the sleeves. Jacket is womenβs size small, 100% cotton.
