One of a kind, vintage silk tank top, hand embroidered in blood red thread. A medieval gate is flanked by a peacock and a rose on one side, and a raven and thistle on the other. Above the gate, the moon shines in a sea of dancing stars.
This piece is the first I’ve embroidered with a design pulled straight from my sketchbook. The energetic, loose lines are how I get out my first and most immediate ideas. I had planned to revise and refine this design into something more “legible,” but the first sketch captured my attention and refused to be worked into something less messy and alive. The red thread pops like electricity against the rich amber, mustardy yellow of the silk.
Tank is Autograph American Clothing, dating to the 1980s, women’s size medium, 100% silk.
