Vintage linen, hand embroidered with the image of the Strength card from Pamela Colman Smith’s classic illustrations of the tarot.
In this traditional tarot artwork, the Strength card depicts a woman gently stroking the head of a lion. She has tamed the ferocious beast with compassion and kindness, not with demanding control. The potential for danger is obvious, but the bond between the two is obvious and the scene overall is peaceful and light.
I wanted to embroider the Strength card after the loss of my dog, Ringo. His final month was a really difficult one physically and emotionally, for him and for us taking care of him. During that time, I kept pulling the Strength card in my tarot readings, and it helped me to breathe and recenter myself and focus on providing the best, gentlest care for Ringo I could. I found an inner strength during that time that I didn’t know was there, that came into being so that I could take care of my boy.
The vintage linen I chose for this artwork has a border of sweet little crocheted circles, and features a pastel floral embroidery frame.
This piece measures approximately 9" x 13.5".
