Tailored, twinkling topcoat. This vintage overcoat was appliqued by hand with black beaded and sequined lace, trailing over the left shoulder, across the back, and around to the rip hip. It’s been elevated from a classic menswear staple into a one-of-a-kind piece for anyone craving some sparkle and whimsy in their wardrobe!
I did some research and have dated the original piece to the 1950s, based on the design of the Harris Tweed tag (see for yourself here!). On the inside of the other side of the jacket is a Benoit’s Maine tag. Here’s a photo of one of Benoit’s department storefronts in 1966.
The jacket is in great condition, requiring only a small bit of mending at the neck where the collar had come open and the replacement of a top button (pictured).
Jacket is Harris Tweed by Benoit’s Maine. Union made (see pic of tag inside right inner pocket). Handwoven pure Scottish wool, partially lined. Three button closure, hip pockets, inner pockets on both sides, and a breast pocket. No size tag included, fits like a men’s XL. Please see measurements below.
